From laundry and cleaning equipment to clever storage and practical worktops, thoughtful design can transform one of the hardest-working rooms in your home.

Utility rooms don’t always get the attention they deserve. They’re often among the smallest rooms in the house, yet we expect them to accommodate an extraordinary amount. Washing machines, tumble dryers, ironing boards, laundry baskets, cleaning products, vacuum cleaners — and then there’s coats, shoes and muddy boots as well.

It’s hardly surprising they can become cluttered. But even a modest utility room can work surprisingly well with the right design.

It’s not about having more space. It’s about making better use of what you’ve got.

Making every inch count

I like to start by thinking about everything the room needs to accommodate, rather than simply finding somewhere to put the appliances.

Tall cupboards can hide cleaning equipment and ironing boards. Drawers and pull-out storage keep smaller items organised, while practical worktops provide somewhere to sort and fold laundry.

And well-planned cabinetry above appliances can make use of space that might otherwise be wasted.

Sometimes it’s the smallest details that make the biggest difference.

Practical can be beautiful

Just because a utility room works hard doesn’t mean it can’t look good.

Cabinetry and worktops can complement your kitchen, creating a consistent feel throughout your home. Or perhaps you’d prefer something different, with a little colour, natural wood or more traditional finishes.

And if your utility room also needs to serve as a boot room, pantry or back entrance, we can bring those functions together in a way that works.

Beautifully designed. Practical to live with.
